We all know that mother's day is a holiday where we celebrate mothers. But how did it come about? The history of mother's day goes as far back as the ancient Greeks and Romans, who celebrated a festival called "matronalia." This was a sacred time to honor women who had given birth. In 1870, Anna Jarvis wanted to promote peace on earth for mothers and their children. She organized an event in West Virginia honoring her own mother who died four years earlier from breast cancer. This idea spread quickly across America and became what we now know as Mother's Day!
