Labour Day - 1st May

The Labour Day holiday is a time to relax, enjoy the company of friends and family, and most importantly- celebrate. But what exactly are we celebrating? The history of this particular day goes back all the way to 1894 when it was first introduced in Canada as a response to growing unrest among Canadian workers with unsafe working conditions and long hours. It seems that since then, it has become an international celebration not only for labourers but also for people who work in offices or otherwise do not spend their days doing manual labour.

History of The Labour Day

The history of labour day begins in the late 1800s, when workers started to demand shorter working hours and better pay. These demands were met with harsh opposition from employers who saw this as an act against free enterprise. As a result, many different unions were established across North America to help support labour movements. Labour Day is celebrated on the first Monday of September for these reasons.
