Father's Day is a celebration of fathers and fatherhood. It has been observed in the United States since the early 20th century, but it wasn't until 1972 that President Nixon signed a proclamation declaring Father's Day to be a national holiday. In the 1950s, an organization called "The National Father's Council" began lobbying for president Eisenhower to make fatherhood more of a priority. Fathers have always played an important role in society, so it makes sense that they should also be given recognition on this special day!
